You're looking to buy a 5K iMac around January, but you anticipate a refresh will be available then. You're hoping to get one that includes DDR4 RAM, avoiding the need for the more expensive DDR3 2133MHz Sodimm memory unless you're willing to pay a premium for 64GB.

It seems the latest iMac might run Skylake or Kaby Lake with DDR4 memory. The real question is why you’d need a 5K iMac.

Thanks for increasing your post count to influence my decision, but I’m not sure if you’re actually considering DDR4 RAM or just testing the waters. You seemed to think I’d be switching to Apple’s 2133MHz memory, which they don’t offer. That’s a bit of a leap—I was planning to use 2133MHz from another source. Hopefully the upcoming 5K supports Kaby Lake CPUs with DDR4, or I might stick with a 2015 model and install 8GBx4 Sodimm memory.
