Hi, I recently discovered that monitors restrict the number of frames displayed based on their refresh rate. For instance, my 75Hz screen can only show up to 75FPS, skipping any extra frames. I’ve wondered if others limit their FPS in games to match this, especially in titles like Overwatch and CSGO. I tend to cap my FPS at 75 because it feels better, thinking the unused frames waste resources. Does anyone else experience this limitation?

I secure my frames to keep temperatures stable. Still, they often reset every few seconds, which is puzzling since capping should improve consistency.

Your idea about too many frames uses more resources, which makes sense. The Rocket League limit being capped at 75 can drop to 73-74, which is confusing. It seems like the cap acts as a maximum, so it can only decrease from that point.

TF2 at 60fps seems odd, particularly because I focus on Pyro. I'd prefer a much higher frame rate.

It seems the output is narrowing down to a specific range due to timing issues in the frame rate. Since it's likely limited by frame rate rather than vertical sync, the game probably isn't checking for a consistent 13.33ms target. It might not be showing exactly 75 frames, but it could render them at a lower rate in an inconsistent way.

What is the refresh rate of your screen? Running at full 250 frames per second on a 75Hz display could be uncomfortable and might raise concerns about power consumption.

60Hz. If you're planning to cap, I'd double the refresh rate, or 150fps for you. Unless your setup is extremely power-hungry (and it won't be in RL, OW or CSGO), it won't consume a lot of energy.

I just set the frame rate using Rivatuner.

This really appeals to me. It would definitely remove that whole screen drop when I stick to my refresh rate.

Certainly, this will maintain quick replies and minimize noticeable frame drops.
