I was considering using an older PC with an i3-4130 temporarily and upgrading it to an Xeon E3-1230 V3 until I get a new one. I just returned the 5600X. The E3-1230 V3 is similar to an i7-4770. Anyone still using it? Is it acceptable right now? (The Xeon costs $45). Ty!
The USB problem seems to be on the motherboard, but it's okay to stick with what you have right now and hold off until Alder Lake comes out.
Don't misunderstand, I’m not suggesting you return it. What you’re seeing is just a few issues with older hardware. The B550 board really needed a BIOS update, and you didn’t know how to handle the cooler removal. Windows 11 seems problematic with 4th generation Intel chips—stick with Windows 10 instead. For my setup, I use a 2600k at stock in the living room; it gives me a smooth 60fps even in new games. The E3 1230v3 is only about 10% better, so don’t expect much more. I’d rather keep what you have since most problems with new releases are normal. Intel has had its share of issues too. Generally, whenever something new comes out, some quirks appear and can last a few months.
I’m still using the 4790k at the moment because I’m just replying to your message. For future 3D modeling, I’ll stick with it for another 2–3 years.
You're still relying on the 4770k, isn't that okay? I mainly use it for BF4, which struggles with a 1060. However, if you're comfortable with frame caps, that's fine too.
