Setting up my first build with these parts felt exciting. The CPU cooler and motherboard were ready, and I connected everything carefully. When I powered it up, the RGB lights started to glow on the board. After turning on the case power button, I noticed some LEDs came on, and the fans spun a few times before stopping. This sequence repeated several times, each time with blinking lights and fans struggling to start. Eventually, everything halted completely. Pressing the case power button afterward had no effect. Now I’m trying to figure out what’s wrong—turning it back on doesn’t seem to fix it.
I wasn't able to do that, but I purchased the genuine type 4 cables from Corsair directly.
Hey everyone, I'm in agreement with Gnome—this looks like a pretty bad PSU. Modular units without cables are rarely worth it, and if it's not reliable, it's probably not worth the effort. The power supply is the only part that might still work, but overall it seems like a risky purchase.
*sigh* okay, well thanks to you and IkeaGnome for that pointer. When you say "can break every other component you have", do you think that I've actively done harm to some of my other components (mobo, CPU) based on what I wrote in my OP? Like, the fact that I'm getting fewer LED blinks now compared to the first time kind of seems like a bad sign. Also, it's really hard to find a white, low-ish power (550w +/- 100) PSU from a reputable brand, which is why I took the gamble on that used one. I'm trying to match it to white case.
Truly impossible to understand. You won't realize it until you install a fresh, working power supply and attempt to start it. Let me know you haven't tried booting again since Tuesday. That's because sub-750W PSUs aren't worthwhile and white ones are quite rare too. If you need a white build you'll have to pay the tax on it. Occasionally you might hit a good deal on RAM or a manufacturer just released new units, but often you end up paying 20-50% extra just for the casing.
