I noticed my HMDI port on the motherboard seems restricted and possibly affected by metal shield tabs. Is this a concern? It might be worth checking, even though I haven’t used the port recently. My system has worked well for over a year and a half without any problems like BSODs, crashes, or unexpected shutdowns.
They're there for extra stability on the motherboard connections. Just make sure they don't block any power entry points.
Ensure tabs stay outside ports to avoid short circuits. They’re meant to connect the ports to the case, which in turn is grounded to the power supply, allowing contact with I/O while preventing internal entry.
It's better to fold it back and forth and drop it then, or take the motherboard out to shape it properly.
Remove the motherboard carefully, making sure the pin isn't placed inside or behind the port when reinserting it. If you can, use pliers or another tool to cut off the tab as Fasauceome recommended.
I successfully removed the tab from the port using needle-nose pliers, and it’s now protruding. The challenge is deciding which tool to use for the next step.
