No need to download unless it offers value.
I purchased Star Citizen a while back, maybe before Elite: Dangerous hit in October 2014. I’ve been thinking about whether it’s worth getting it now. Initially, I played just the racing and hangar sections, but I quickly grew bored. Later, when flying and combat became available, I tried again, though it never really captured my interest. I still enjoy Elite: Dangerous for its community, lore, and gameplay, even if it can get repetitive. Star Citizen feels more realistic with its flying and damage mechanics, which contrasts with my preference for arcade-style games like Elite. Whether it’s worth downloading depends on what you value—world size, content, or the vibe. If you’re looking for something engaging, I’d recommend checking out the open or semi-open world features and seeing if there are any standout elements that might reignite your interest.
You're among those who enjoy snagging early access and still have curiosity left for a title years later... Sure, several features are functional (though rarely fully), like Arena Commander, races, and soon Star Marine. I haven't actually played it myself—my current setup can't handle it—but I've heard it's useful for getting a sense of the game. Plus, according to what I know, some tough content will be available in the alpha/beta phases before the final launch.
I'd skip it, just hope a 2.6 or 3.0 version appears in ten years (just a joke)
That’s the early access phase. I favor the classic approach where consumers build AAA titles. You rarely receive a solid product and often end up with extra content without proper support. Still, it offers quality production with experienced directors and professional roles similar to a film set.
Most of the advancement has stayed behind the surface work—focusing on optimization and balance. It’s not about real content creation.
Playing 2.0 or later brings minimal changes. A few ships, a new station, a handful of missions, and the standard criminal mechanics. Expected release for 2.6 is December 8th, introducing Star Marine, two additional ships, a fresh Arena Commander mode, possibly Spectrum, and other details I’m not sure about. The more exciting updates are planned for 3.0 around early January. Back then we were told the remaining Stanton system would arrive, including planetary landings, more complex missions, NPC dialogue and movement, trading, and perhaps quantum drive interception. Much of the previous year focused on tech development, tools, and wrapping up the first chapter of Squadron42, which currently has some bug issues.
