After roughly eight years of playing games, I’ve found myself returning to my PC at home, just like when I was still gaming League, Battlefield, Hearthstone, Diablo 3, and many others. Now I’m unsure what to do anymore. I spend time listening to music without purpose, scrolling through social media, reading the same posts I used to, but it feels empty. I’ve become exhausted. My usual activities no longer bring joy or excitement—they feel dull. I lost a part of myself in this process. On the positive side, I’m no longer a nerd, which gives me some freedom, but replacing this daily routine with something new is challenging. I used to read a lot, but that faded too when I started gaming, and it’s hard to focus on reading instead of playing or socializing. It’s strange to think if others have gone through the same thing. I’d love to talk about this or share my thoughts and feelings. Thanks!
I'm in a similar situation myself—22 now, used to playing a lot, but recently I've cut back a lot because of World of Warcraft. It's ironic since I only made my first serious gaming build just last year. A lot of it comes from feeling jaded after leaving WoW.
It's just a few weeks until 18, and over the past year games haven't felt the same. I think it's not because I'm becoming more responsible—I'm actually the most lazy person around. I've been careful about what I play now and have started focusing on 'the best.' Previously, I didn't really pay much attention to Hotline Miami, but now I'm really hooked. I should also note that since I've played in shorter sessions less often, my focus and learning ability have improved a lot—maybe the critics were right all along.
I spent nearly a year without a hobby after buying a console. Eventually, I decided to focus on PCs and gaming.
This stuff happens a lot to me, what you could do is find more friends out there on the internet and possibly considering you're 17 get a part time job. That way you'd earn money and buy more games. If that option is irrelevant you could start programming or be a content creator. You still got a long way in front of ya kid!
