Hey there, I set up a new setup recently. It includes an Intel 4690K and a GTX 970 with 4GB of VRAM. I've been playing Skyrim with some HD texture mods. My frame rate stays around 61 FPS and doesn't seem to improve much, even though I know my card should handle the game better. I'm using a 60Hz monitor. Is this the main issue, or are there other factors at play?

VSync could be enabled. Additionally, with certain mods, Skyrim can handle a high frame rate quite well. If you're using a 60Hz display, keep the refresh rate under 60 and avoid significant drops.

The game limits itself to 60 frames per second yet remains unlockable. Performance might not be ideal. Check the discussion here: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33984076

You're enjoying Skyrim, which can be quite rough on even basic graphics cards like the 970 depending on your mods. With a 60Hz screen, the visuals feel pretty raw and unpolished.

Lowering the frame rate in Skyrim leads to frequent issues. I promptly turned it back on at least.
