Hi! It looks like you have an LGA 2011-v3 CPU but your motherboard is only LGA 1151. You should check if the CPU matches the socket type on your motherboard. If not, you’ll likely need a compatible motherboard to use it properly.

When considering the socket, it's important to grasp the chipset details. A Z270 motherboard uses LGA 1151, but it won't work with an i7-8700 processor. People often mention this when discussing compatibility.

The Z270 uses LGA 1151 but isn’t compatible with an i7-8700. It works with i3 through i5 models, which is what you’re using right now—your 8700k runs with 128GB RAM.

It seems you brought up an older discussion about LGA1151 chipsets. The key points are that there were two versions—identical in pin layout but different in functionality—Intel altered the pin assignments. Version 1 supported Skylake and Laby Lake CPUs, while version 2 worked with Coffee Lake and Coffee Lake Refresh chipsets. Running Coffee Lake on version 1 boards required custom BIOS modifications, as official support wasn’t provided.
