I own a separate cooling unit. Under tried conditions, my CPU reaches its peak around 25% during gameplay—about a quarter of its previous performance. Three changes made before this happened: 1. I switched to Windows 11 after realizing it wasn’t officially compatible. 2. I upgraded the BIOS, similar to a problem on the same chip in 2022 (see “IMON slopes 8550u”), where power was cut by 60%, which seems resolved. 3. The BIOS flags the fan as missing and limits CPU usage, pausing it for 10 seconds every five minutes, even during rapid restarts (not a full shutdown). I’ve reached out to HP forums four times but haven’t gotten a response.

I see how this could be the root issue. A tool to override the fan settings might actually resolve it, though I've used speedfan before—it's quite outdated.

I can't believe it, but that might actually work, right? Thanks a lot.

IMON slope is a parameter that influences how much power the CPU communicates with the Embedded Controller. Adjusting this value can make the EC believe the CPU is consuming less power, allowing it to exceed the actual limit and boost performance. Possible interference might be from existing settings or controls you've implemented to address this issue. Removing these could help confirm whether the problem exists.

It seems I only discovered the IMON slope adjustment recently, which makes me think these problems happened together—likely because both the BIOS update and the fan stopped working at the same time. I don’t recall, but the 10-second boost every five minutes probably began after I changed the IMON slope, and before that it was just slow and inconsistent. If I keep trying fixes, I might end up going back to the original IMON settings.

I installed the old fan hoping to trick the system with a can of compressed silicone spray, but it performed perfectly right away. Perhaps the grease required more time to melt in this heat and fill the gaps. I’m now running at full capacity again. Still curious if that brief throttle and boost sequence can be replicated even slightly. Thanks for your quick reply. It’s clear sometimes things just work out fine. I’m anxious about using electronics in high temperatures moving forward. This shows how much I rely on FO4—almost halfway through the game at around 25-35 fps, with only 25% CPU use and the GPU not running at full capacity.
