I wasn't certain if this fits the PC gaming category because I wasn't focusing on particular titles, but rather on the methods used to obtain and play games via various platforms. I'm receiving Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition on Xbox One and understand that the digital version grants access on both Xbox One and Windows 10, which makes me consider getting the digital copy as well so I could have both versions on my PC alongside Xbox One. To assist with this decision, I would appreciate some information about games available on the W10 store—what are the notable strengths or drawbacks there?

They're stored in a different location on the hard drive, beyond the Windows Store apps.

Just install it and start playing. Even though it can occasionally stop during large transfers, it usually works once you get going.

Verify your local currency settings and ensure your system meets the necessary specs. Check the store page for minimum and recommended requirements before purchasing.

Cool. Just wanted to check before I more firmly consider doing this. Ok. If I buy this I'll keep an eye out for buggy download progress. This is tied to the same account I use on my Xbox right? If I download a game from the Windows 10 store it's not going to tie my copy of W10 to my Xbox/MS account will it? I'd prefer to avoid doing that. I think there's some annoying thing that happens. Like it forces you to use your MS account to log into your computer instead of just using a standalone password like normal? Halo Wars 2 wants a GTX 1060 for the recommended spec if I remember right. So my 1070 is more than sufficient. But thank you for the warning. Making sure you can meet the requirements for digital games is important since getting a refund is at lesst harder than with discs if not impossible I'd think in some cases.

Windows remains connected to your device's hardware, not linked to your Microsoft account. When using a "Local account," the Windows Store may prompt you to "log in." After logging in, it will also ask if you wish to convert your account or just log into this app—select the latter for a smooth experience.

Confirm your GamerTag on Xbox matches the Microsoft account linked there. You can verify this in the Microsoft account settings. What are you asking about? It relates to how it connects with the account. You’ll be able to install the game on up to 10 Windows 10 devices you own. The game isn’t tied to your physical hardware; it works on any Windows 10 system using your Microsoft account. You won’t be forced, but you’ll need to log into the Windows Store with your account. Microsoft seldom provides refunds, which is mainly why people react this way.

Your purchased game or app is linked to your MS account. You install it and use it on up to 10 devices. You can also connect another account to download the game there. There’s a web page in your Microsoft account where you can log in to manage devices (remove or add them as needed)

This process of changing accounts is something I'd rather skip. I think it's safer if my Xbox/MS account uses one password and my PC uses another. Thanks for clarifying about this. Sorry for the confusion. I was just trying to understand the account conversion idea TetraSky mentioned. I’d prefer keeping my PC and Xbox/MS accounts separate, not swapping my computer login with MS credentials. Appreciate the warning.

My main worry right now is whether it’s worth spending another $80 just to be able to play both Halo Wars titles on PC. That’s a tough decision to make.

Actually, it’s not as open as Steam or even better than GOG (unless they impose device limits). At least it’s better than Nintendo’s “one purchase per device” policy. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
