We had intended to purchase the MSI MORTAR B550 for his Ryzen 5800X setup, but he noticed the stylish motherboard in that dark dress. MSI Gaming B550 Carbon with Wi-Fi. Does that seem too much?

In my view, a $200 pill is quite heavy for most people seeking a MoBo. I opt for features such as wifi6, bios flashback, and m.2 heatsinks. RGB is an option but not essential.

B550-F is a solid choice, performs well right out of the box. For those who wish to experiment with overclocking later, it’s quite capable. It doesn’t seem excessive in terms of power. In the past, a quality Asus board cost around 200-250 CAD for at least ten years, and now you can buy more than three times that amount. That’s quite a jump!
