No, you don’t need to take out the windows because the SSD already holds more than just the operating system.

I've updated the motherboards and CPUs without reinstalling Windows smoothly. However, I suggest a fresh installation of Windows. After that, the new NVMe is performing slightly better based on DiskMark.
