I understand the Technical Preview works, but I don’t see comparable details for the Insider Preview. All the information I’ve found on MS suggests a complete OS reinstall might be necessary. Do you know if anyone has tried reverting the IP version of Windows 10?

You might be able to use it, though it's not clear what steps to take.

I understand you're unsure about backing up your entire C drive and Windows 10 installation. You might prefer going back to the Technical Preview instead of the Insider Preview.

Technical Preview and Insider Preview serve distinct purposes. Yes, you can dual boot Windows 7 and the Insider Preview version on separate drives—installing each on a different disk will let you access both operating systems.

I recall seeing information on Microsoft's website about this issue. It seems that after installing Windows 10, going back to version 8.1 became difficult. It would be wise to run it in a virtual machine or on a different drive for safety.
