I’m considering a more affordable B550 motherboard without Wi-Fi. Would it be better to purchase a separate wireless card instead? - https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ROG-B550-F-M...YAJ8M43K38

It doesn't seem worthwhile. The expert is good but you're always connected. If not, just install a Wi-Fi card. Edited July 23, 2020 by TofuHaroto

That's a costly A-pro, especially with the tomahawk priced around £160. You might want to check this board here: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/RhrY...ortar-wifi

Are you confident it will fit everything? I’ll also include an Elgato.

The setup works well with the b550m mortar. The challenge lies in the second m.2 and the 16x slot (four channels). You can either insert a card into the 16x slot or opt for two m.2 drives. Useful information for upcoming upgrades. Checked the b550-a pro too—it shares the same constraint. The second m.2 blocks the second 16x slot (four channels). If your Elgato is a single card, it fits in one of those; otherwise, you must decide whether to upgrade now or look for a motherboard that supports more flexibility. B550 models often have this trade-off, so choose based on your needs, whether you're using an MATX or ATX. B550 models with TUF gaming support the second 16x slot without issues, but pairing it with a GPU that uses a different PCIe layout can help avoid conflicts. In my experience, using the second slot down (two slots) works better. Always refer to the user manual or the specific board specs—it usually mentions PCIe limits under expansion details, often marked with an asterisk.

The issue I’m addressing comes from the limited number of B550 boards that include both a 4x secondary slot and a second 4x PCIe drive. Typically you’ll find either one or the other, but rarely both. Asrock’s B550m Steel offers a 4x slot plus a 2x M.2, while the more premium B550 Tuf gaming model can provide either four 1x slots or just one 4x card. It also features a dedicated Wi-Fi port and a 4x NVMe drive. If you clarify your requirements, we can help you find a cost-effective solution. Which Elgato model are you using? If it’s the 4K60 card with a 4x slot, you’ll need to evaluate other components or consider the X570 option. For the standard 1080p60 card with a 1x slot, there are many choices—just ensure your motherboard supports the GPU without occupying those slots. Otherwise, the more expensive B550 Tuf gaming model can also support four 1x cards or a single 4x card, along with the same accessories.

You're planning to get an El Gato Pro next year. Since you're not very tech-savvy, you might want to consider getting a separate wireless card and an NVMe SSD to make things easier. You're also learning about MOSOs, so it's good that you're taking this step!

You're considering which capture card to use. Are you thinking about a 4K model or a Full HD one? If you opt for the Asus B550 Tuf gaming, it should work well. You can purchase the card and antennas separately, often at a lower cost by buying an AX200 or 9260 NGFF M.2 card along with antennas and a wifi kit. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/pnqBD3/...-b550-plus A more budget-friendly option is the Asus PRIME B550-PLUS. However, if you need both WiFi and 4K support, your graphics card must fit within a 2-slot width. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/TR848d/...-b550-plus A bit cooler the graphics card appears over the metal back plate, which could affect where the WiFi card is placed on the Prime model (especially with a 4K capture card). If you prefer a 1080p FHD capture card from Elgato, any motherboard will suffice, allowing you to install multiple cards as needed. You might be willing to spend an extra $20 for the TUF Gaming Plus when you already have around $1150 invested, especially if you don’t mind managing the placement and layout. Adding WiFi usually costs about $30, which aligns with the price range for a ROG B550-F WiFi model. Choosing a 1080p card is simpler since placement isn’t restricted, but using a 4K capture card means your setup has to follow specific guidelines.
