System uses short-lived files for storage. This directory shouldn't contain critical data.

I regularly clear the contents of the temp folders... it's usually smooth sailing, except when I feel a bit frustrated because of all the leftover files. in an ideal world, programs would automatically remove their temporary data once they finish working and close. but no software ever does that on its own. if developers treated their code like they did at home, everyone would be relaxing on the couch forever.
