I just purchased this motherboard for Ryzen 5 3400G, but I need to update the BIOS to work with it. A friend has a Ryzen 5 1600AF and wants to use that CPU to update the BIOS. Can I run the 1600AF without updating the BIOS?

It relies on the specific BIOS version on your motherboard. The 1600AF requires BIOS version vH5 to function properly.

I’m not sure about that. The person who sold me the motherboard had a Ryzen 1600X in it.

Find ways to run The Bios version on a CPU-only setup, such as using emulation or virtualization techniques.

It's unlikely the original owner updated the BIOS since they didn’t have a strong incentive. If the previous owner was the first user, they probably used the system before any major changes were made.

The 1600AF was given support before the 3400G was, so there is a chance that the board could have been updated to a version that supports the 1600AF without going all the way to a version that supports the 3400G. I don't know that the odds are that good, but it could be the case. You could give it a shot.
