You can briefly connect a GPU from another system, but adjusting BIOS settings like RAM speed might affect performance. Once those changes are applied, removing the GPU should work without issues.

I'm considering a 2600 unit since I need to begin configuring VMs for Nextcloud and similar services, and it's currently on sale. The 3000G performs around 70-80% efficiency in parity tests.

Maybe a budget pick would be getting a GT 210/710 for $10-20 when your motherboard won’t start without a GPU.
