I am assembling a new PC using the ROG Z790 Hero motherboard. After booting up, I installed Windows 11 and encountered an issue on the "lets connect you to a network" screen. No networks appear available. I’m connected via Ethernet and a Wi-Fi antenna, but neither works. I tested the Ethernet cable on another laptop, which functioned fine. I installed the motherboard antenna and secured it as far as possible, but it still didn’t connect. I contacted ASUS support, cleared the CMOS, but the problem persisted. They suggested returning the board, which I’m reluctant to do due to time and risk concerns. Here are my thoughts: It seems both Ethernet and Wi-Fi are missing. Could there be something on the board that needs power or activation to enable networking? Are there other possible reasons for this failure? I didn’t notice networking tests in the BIOS, but I might have overlooked them. How can I verify connectivity without using the operating system setup? Could switching to a different OS that doesn’t require an internet connection help? Is there a service that allows me to bring my PC in for further troubleshooting without dismantling it or sending the board back? I’m based in the Bay Area, California.

To link to Ethernet you require the appropriate drivers. The same applies to a Wi-Fi antenna. You won't be able to do this if you haven't moved past the Windows 11 login screen. I recommend returning the Windows 11 license and purchasing a Windows 10 version, setting it up, installing the network drivers that should already be in your motherboard, and then upgrading to Windows 11. Starting with Windows 11 for building a brand new PC isn't advised—just for laptops, really.

Thank you, installing Windows 10 will be considered a solution if it functions.

I encountered the same problem when pressing SHIFT + F10 during installation; the option displayed to install "armory crate" drivers. After that, I was able to connect to my LAN network. My approach was to find a way around the activation process. I was using the newest Windows 11 from Microsoft's website, possibly adding it at that time.
