I purchased an HD 3650 for my older Pentium 4 system, replacing the Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 Rev. A00. I’m checking which games will work well or run smoothly. I also have 2 GB of DDR RAM on Windows XP Professional SP3 x86. I mainly prefer offline and singleplayer titles, though any suggestions would be appreciated.

Games that worked with the FX 5200: Halo CE, Far Cry (low/medium), Battlefield Vietnam/1942, IGI2, all GldSrc titles, and Half-Life 2. Left 4 Dead would run, but there were too many graphical issues to judge its quality now.

Borderlands 1?
DX 10.1 means you should be able to play Unreal Tournament 3, and all the others too. That era might have been around during the Doom 3 time.
There is Quake - Quake III
You've got early Battlefield covered. Try the Forgotten Hope mod for 1942, which adds historical vehicles that 1942 didn't have or had inaccuracies with.
Dues Ex?
Max Payne was known for his bullet time effect.
I'm sure there are many more out there that I don't know about, representing the golden age of FPS and strategy games.

Original Scrolls Oblivion plus DLCs. Possibly Skyrim at extremely reduced settings, likely the original DX9 release. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2. Authentic versions.

Thank you for your ideas. CoD 4:MW and MW2 are available on Steam, so I'll look into them. Borderlands 1 seems like a game worth trying.
I'll explore Forbidden Hope next.
I'm curious about which PC games would fit my system.
System specs: Pentium 4 2.4 GHz (no HT), Radeon HD 3650 AGP, 1.75 GB DDR, Windows XP Professional SP3.
I already own Battlefield 1942/Vietnam/2, Halo CE/2 with XP patch, FarCry, Half-Life/2/2E1/2E2, and IGI/2.

I would say all games up to 2005 except the shader-heavy F.E.A.R., which would only run at 30fps if you had more CPU power.

All your examples come from this time period, with the exception of Left 4 Dead, which was released in 2008.

The better GPU offers more visual effects but still maintains low frame rates, so it won’t significantly improve performance for demanding titles even with the fastest AGP card HD3850.

However, if you’re familiar with playing on the original PS1, 30fps with occasional drops to 15fps should be acceptable.

The HD3650 blocks dual-booting into Windows 9x or DOS to run games that never worked in any NT Windows versions because no drivers exist. You could use the FX5200 for that purpose.

Yes, you could upgrade to that processor. It would likely improve performance.

You'd need the exact motherboard details to confirm compatibility. It seems the Northwood's FSB speed differs from the older Pentium 4, meaning not every board would work.

Doom might be one of the early Hitman games, though it's not confirmed. Early Crisis titles are often referenced with the joke about Crysis, but I can't remember the exact game.
