It’s not recommended to remove the Windows.old folder unless you’re certain it contains no important data. Consider backing it up first.

It’s meant to allow you to revert changes if the latest update isn’t functioning properly. I recommend saving it for a short period before removing it, in case you need to roll back. It seems to be removed after about a month.

Get ready for a struggle to eliminate it. Regardless of how often I switch owners, set passwords, or adjust permissions, I still can’t remove those subfolders.

The issue is that during the disk cloning backup, Windows.old was included, which took up space. I had to delete it, but while cloning permissions were handled correctly, the folder size dropped dramatically—from 30 gigabytes to just 6 gigabytes after about two hours.
