Omitting the broken game reasons listed above, if the game works as expected, cheating seems pretty pointless. If the game is too hard to play, then what good is cheating? There's no accomplishment. You're basically just running through the motions for the sake of rolling the credits. There's no fun in that because... then what? If I reach a hard point in a game, I will look for a walk-through to get me past my holdup. But if I have to keep doing that on a regular basis, I'll reconsider why I'm even playing the game that is too hard for me. I generally will just give up and play something more on my level. Cheating is stupid.
Back then, finding hacks was mostly through personal recommendations or gaming publications. Only the most basic information was available, and it wasn’t much more than that until after I finished playing a game—I’d never cheat in an online match again or rely on shortcuts to get through paid content.
