It's typical for the rank change to have fine-tuned you; the latest levels are significantly more challenging than before the update was released.

That's correct. I was close to earning LE during my initial ten matches on a new account right before the rank change. I moved from GN3 to GN4 quickly, but then got stuck at MG1 for a while before advancing to MG2. The average player now is at GN2, and the skill gap has grown significantly after that point.
