I'm frustrated with some issues I've faced on Windows 10 and would prefer to return to Windows 7. I first used Windows 7 before receiving the free Windows 10 update. While I’m fine with a full reinstall, I don’t want to purchase a new Windows 7 license. My main concern is whether it’s possible to deactivate my current Windows 10 license and use it for installing Windows 7. Additionally, I’m wondering if there’s a way to locate the old license key within the Windows settings, especially since the Activation section only shows a link to my Microsoft account.

You might consider using tools like KeyFinder or ProduKey. I’m not sure if they’ll retrieve your old license key. From what I understand, the Windows 10 key matches the one from which you upgraded. I managed to revert to Windows 8.1 from 10 with a clean install and kept the same key. Since I stored it elsewhere, I never needed to extract it.

You can reinstall Windows 7 once you regain your key, and later upgrade to Windows 10 if desired. You possess both licenses. Keep in mind: the free upgrade to Windows 10 is valid only when your hardware remains similar—such as adding more RAM, switching storage types, getting a new graphics card, or installing additional sound cards. Your product key ties to your Microsoft account. Would you like to know about any problems you're encountering with Windows 10? I'm here to assist.
