No header is required for a front panel USB C port.
I'm thinking about moving to the Fractal Design Define R6 upgrade. Most cases available at New Egg feature USB C connections. Since I don't currently require a Type C port on my PC, but might need one if the case has a front port, it makes sense to include it. Type C appears to be the next trend. I own a Gigabyte Z390 UD ATX LGA1151 board with one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 header. The Define R6 offers two USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 and one USB C port. Do you know if the Type C port will need its own header or if Fractal integrated it with the 2.0 connection? It seems unlikely they'd split it, but I'm curious about alternatives if needed. If a header is necessary, any suggestions for compatible expansion cards would be helpful. I've noticed rear-mounted Type C ports on some cards, but front ports are what I'm worried about.
Type C serves as its own connector. Aorus Master includes a Type C port for such scenarios.
You might use this adapter if space allows, though it's common to run into problems with SFF (even though that situation isn't typical).
You'd miss the front-side USB 3.0 header and be restricted to those speeds, wouldn't you? It seems the R6 supports both USB 3.1 and USB-C ports, using different headers for each.
I just moved the PC I assembled last summer into the Fractal R6 and observed the same issue, or more precisely, didn’t find a connection cable for the USB C port to the MOBO. I wondered if inserting the USB 3 header into the MOBO also linked the USB C port. Since I don’t have any USB C devices to test, I’m curious about this setup. Honestly, I’d have chosen a Fractal R6 without the USB C port if available, but none were on sale. Overall, it’s strange that neither of our cases has a connection wire.
The USB-C device includes a fresh connector requiring a header on the motherboard. You can use adapters if you lack one, but ensure you have a free USB3 header available: https://www.ebay.com/itm/173846098864
You recently purchased this case but aren’t able to locate the USB-C front panel connection. Someone might have identified an issue with Fractal Design?
