I first turned on my computer to see if the wallpaper had been altered to the default Windows version, and all my files disappeared except those still accessible in my user directory. After restarting, the issue resolved. No one has ever experienced something like this before.

It's possible two external hard drives are connected, and your system chose the first one automatically instead of your usual drive.

It seems the system launched with a fresh background image and followed standard setup steps, but the desktop interface remained unchanged.

This doesn’t make sense at all. Let me share what happened to me too. I didn’t realize it until then, but it’s only occurred once. It seems Windows couldn’t locate your user folder, so everything—desktop, wallpaper, etc.—was gone even though it was still on the drive. Possibly the drive took a long time to respond or Windows was just running slowly.

It doesn’t make sense? From my perspective, my computer acts like a grumpy partner that doesn’t work properly, especially when it comes to which hard drive it starts from. It switches between them randomly, so I only keep one connected with the operating system.

It seems there could have been an issue prior to this, leading to a safe mode activation. You might have started with an admin or guest account, which accounts for the behavior of Windows appearing as if it were on a new or unused user profile.

It no longer matters; I had to reinstall Windows because I saw a blue screen and thought my GPU was overheating.
