No, Farcry 5 is not available in Australia.
It would be great if Australia didn't categorize it at the time of release.
Our classification board has some issues, but it mainly rejects games that promote or include player actions involving sexual violence or drug-related behaviors. The concern about drug use is less severe since many games allow significant drug consumption. Generally, non-sexual content, language, and non-violent sexual references seem to be accepted without restrictions.
It's interesting how drug use is restricted in society compared to extreme violence. What do you think?
It's quite strange. Apparently, the classification board thinks adults won't be swayed by genocide in a virtual setting but will be affected by drug use. That doesn't seem logical, though things are improving. We finally received an uncensored L4D2 recently, and now our games no longer restrict non-sexual violence. It still feels odd that we can broadcast anything other than porn on public TV, yet not in games... A show like Breaking Bad is aired without cuts on free TV this evening. EDIT: Regarding the drug issue, I'm not entirely sure about their rules or how they view them. They allowed Farcry 4 to run uncensored, which includes a lot of drug-related content leading to mass killings...
