Hello everyone! I'm facing a problem when starting my new PC for the first time. It powers on but doesn't display any video. After turning it on, the lights come on, fans begin spinning (the PSU stops after a couple of seconds in hybrid mode), and it goes through several boot codes quickly, ending up on the "Ad" code. The four LEDs at the bottom right light up in a sequence, and the display stays on. The screen (a 2-year-old LG model with 2560x1440p resolution, I don't know the exact model) seems to receive a wake-up signal. It boots from standby, shows DisplayPort in the top right, but then displays "No Signal" in the center and turns off. I've attempted to update the BIOS according to the manual, but it fails—after a few seconds it powers off again. The DisplayPort is connected to the GPU, which works fine on my old system (a KF processor, MSI Z97 with an Intel Core i7 4770K and 16GB DDR3). I've tried many fixes: checking cables, clearing CMOS, reseating RAM, testing single vs dual modules, removing SSDs, checking the CPU socket, using Q-Flash, and even using a USB drive on the dedicated BIOS port. I've also updated BIOS via F5m, but it didn't work. The specs are: Intel Core i5-13600KF, Gigabyte Z790 AORUS Master (rev 1.0), G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB DDR5-6600, WD Black SN850 2TB M.2 SSD (two for boot, four for RAID5). I'm running out of ideas for troubleshooting. Could it be a compatibility issue with the old GPU? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Will
It doesn't seem like a compatibility problem right now. It's just an older device, but it still supports UEFI. I wonder if the board is refusing to start because it can't find a bootable drive, especially since some boards behave that way. You could try using a Windows installer disk and see if placing it in a USB port triggers the startup.
Consider using a HDMI cable instead of the display port. Switch the GPU to another slot. Enable Q-Flash Plus to update your BIOS. Ensure the BIOS file is renamed properly and format the drive using FAT or FAT32.
The bootable device is likely a USB drive containing the ISO image. You don’t need to install Windows on it; just boot from the USB and follow the installation steps.
Sure, just using a USB drive with an ISO file is a straightforward option. Placing Windows on the USB would also be possible, though it requires more work.
Consider using your older setup and verify if an NVIDIA firmware upgrade is required. The NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool supports DisplayPort 1.3 and 1.4 displays. Without the update, connected devices might face blank screens during startup or experience a boot hang until the operating system finishes loading.
Apologies for the delayed reply; I spent a lot of time working. I contacted the store where I ordered the parts and they informed me that something is faulty—both the CPU and motherboard are dead. They’re replacing them at no cost, which is great! I plan to reach out again as soon as they arrive (hope Monday). Unfortunately, I left everything in the box and rushed them to the post office before checking the new recommendations. Once the new components are installed, I’ll update this post. If the problem continues, I’ll test your fixes and trust no other parts are affected. Thanks for your support so far—have a wonderful weekend, @RiffTheRaff and @RONOTHAN##
Hey there! Here’s a revised version of your message:
Hey everyone! Just wanted to share an update. I received the new mainboard, but the CPU was unavailable, so they gave me the 13700K for just €100 more than usual (originally €160). Being quick on my feet, I went ahead with it. Plus, it comes with built-in graphics for diagnostics. The parts arrived smoothly and are functioning perfectly—no issues at all.
I think the first board I got was faulty, since the second one had extra tape on the case and was missing the thermal pad protection foil in the PCIe 5.0 slot. I suspect this board was already assembled, returned, and then resold to me. I’m not sure how to feel about the store now...
Thanks a lot to @RONOTHAN## and @RiffTheRaff for your help! You guys are awesome!
KF buyers can be confusing, but using a K skew with IGPU helps a lot. Just turn it off when everything runs smoothly. Avoid exFAT—it doesn’t work. Stick with FAT32 or FAT16 for File Allocation Table.
