It's best to detach the power supply cable before making any hardware changes. Regarding the Ethernet connection, leaving it linked to an active router is generally safe, but removing it ensures stability during upgrades.

Depends what you're doing, but I unplug it all when upgrading usually. For RAM, I just do power. But for other stuff I unplug all the mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc and put the PC on my coffee table and watch TV and mess with it. No hurry in my house. Ethernet isn't called LOW VOLTAGE for no reason

It doesn't really matter; Ethernet remains separate. The connection between the cable and your computer's parts is essentially nonexistent.

Only the power supply should be turned off, all other details are irrelevant.

It’s not always necessary to disconnect the power cable for everything. Doing so helps prevent accidental activation and keeps systems in a stable state. Removing the plug simplifies troubleshooting and maintenance. However, leaving devices connected can still pose risks depending on the setup.

Additionally, turning off the power switch on the supply and keeping the power cord connected helps maintain grounding.

Do not keep the PSU linked and running. It might accidentally create a short on the standby 5V line, risking damage. If there’s a switch, turn it off. Keep it connected to maintain a solid ground connection and prevent static harm.

It's safe to say I take risks more often than you do.

Except for a light source passing through the wire, everything should be okay.
