I recently acquired an old PC at a thrift store for $10. It features a Pentium 4 supporting both 32 and 64-bit, a 1.75GB DDR 400MHz memory, and Linux Mint pre-installed on an 80GB SATA HDD. The system runs smoothly, even outperforming my expectations. However, it doesn’t boot properly with an SSD. I’ve tested connecting the SATA SSD and used a bootable USB to install a different OS, cloned the existing HDD via flash drive, and even tried installing Mint on the SSD using another machine. Whenever I use a USB drive, errors appear, and inserting the SSD always prompts “No bootable device – insert boot disk and press any key.” Any suggestions?

This machine typically lacks a hard drive. For setting up an operating system, it's usually best to start from a CD. If you're installing on another device, ensure the drive is formatted as MBR, otherwise it may not detect the GPT partition.

Have you looked into the BIOS settings to see if the SSD was recognized?

Starting from a CD resolved the issue. It was a bit slower, but it functioned perfectly.
