I recently started working on my first custom builds. I installed an M725s Lenovo Thinkcentere Ryzen 5 2400g with Samsung M.2 256gb SSD and tested whether my MSI RX 570 8gb would fit. After adjusting the BIOS to enable the GPU over the IDP and disabling it, I noticed the GPU wasn’t producing any output. I turned it off again, reinstalled it, and it started working properly—mouse and keyboard functioned normally. However, the motherboard still didn’t display anything at all. I changed the CMOS jumper settings, moved it to pins 2 and 3, tried leaving it on while unplugged for 10-20 seconds, and even left it plugged in for 5 minutes without fixing the problem. The BIOS fan settings remained unchanged. I also removed the CMOS battery for five minutes and retried, but the issue persisted. Sometimes the screen would flicker briefly, but no clear solution emerged. I’m unsure what I did wrong or how to proceed.
Occasionally with Lenovo and some other OEM/prebuilt machines, when saving BIOS configurations it prompts whether you wish to store it as a custom option. Do you recall being asked that? If you choose not to save it as a personal or user setting, the change becomes a factory default. This means even after resetting CMOS, the adjustment remains a standard setting.
It wasn't asked like that. Does that mean there wouldn’t be a solution even if it did? I’ve paid close attention to every detail since this was my first PC setup.
It seems the iGPU remains disabled by default, but a GPU should still function unless the dedicated GPU is also turned off. I'm not certain about this. Usually, a separate GPU will handle tasks even without its drivers installed.
The GPU problem is being addressed. I need to return it to get a replacement, which means the motherboard is no longer useful until I receive my new GPU and PSU. I borrowed a friend’s PSU to test everything, so I’ll have to wait. What about those who do this without a GPU? They’re in a tough spot. That’s really frustrating.
