Hello, I'm setting up a new rig for my son and wanted to know if I should choose an M.2 NVMe SSD. The performance is impressive, but I'm unsure if my motherboard can handle it. Specifically, does the board you have—Asus Prime X370-Pro (AM4, latest BIOS)—support this type of drive? Thanks, Dave
Relies on the specific CPU model. It functions with any Ryzen-based processor. If your chip lacks the 'Ryzen' designation, compatibility will be lost.
The SSD should function on that board. Be aware the motherboard might require a BIOS upgrade to support that CPU. You can ask AMD for a boot kit or have a local shop install it. Or consider a board that comes pre-installed. Are you purchasing this board new or used?
It's quite bothersome how PCIE compatibility hinges on the specific processor you're using. I even misread it earlier, but the part about a 3700X still functioning works. Any CPU labeled 'Ryzen' should be compatible with this SSD, while those without 'Ryzen' (like Athlon or A10) won't.
