I bought the Ryzen 7 and MSI B450 Tomahawk recently. The packaging mentions Ryzen 3 ready, so I assume the board doesn’t need a BIOS update. My power supply is still functional after only a few days, and it’s set up on my makeshift test bench. I think the power switch is connected correctly, but nothing seems to work.

It seems the bios are probably the issue. Tomahawk Max comes fully assembled, while the other one might not.

Board support isn't guaranteed just because it's physically attached. Manufacturers have released updates for older boards to include compatibility with newer CPUs. Still, updating the BIOS on older chipsets is necessary for full functionality. AMD provides a free solution: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100. Your manual may indicate that updates are possible even without a supported CPU—check it. Page 40 of the manual covers this detail. For the BIOS flash button instructions, see page 29.

It's an excellent board option. You can continue using the B450 Tomahawk. Check the manual for details. Updates are possible when only power reaches the board. Ensure nothing else is connected. Refer to my previous post and the linked bios.
