Someone might guess this change reflects more than just a CPU upgrade. Usually these updates don’t occur, but it looks like the 200-core design was still in progress during the 14th-gen refresh. It’s possible they were addressing past performance problems before making the announcement. Regardless, you shouldn’t expect a major jump from the 13th-gen version—it mainly means swapping out E cores for more P cores and refreshing them.
This was exactly what I expected, and honestly I believe it’s a solid upgrade. There are sufficient P cores onboard to maintain a strong processor, and adding an e core for lighter background or task work is a well-considered design. What I truly hoped for was a Raptor Lake refresh, but that won’t happen.
