According to common belief, you don’t need to purchase loot boxes to obtain anything functional in the game—they’re mostly just cosmetic.

It's just about the appearance and it still delivers the same impact. Absolutely, you can get items from loot boxes by playing. They haven't stopped them from making a profit.

You understand your stance on evaluating others based on their spending habits. That’s the perspective I had.

I was trying to point out how sneaky it is to market loot boxes this way, but of course, shift the responsibility to the companies themselves.

It's not about manipulation at all. You don't need those decorative pieces. If you think otherwise, it's a personal issue. Blaming the buyer by labeling them "mindless crowds" is unfair—they have thoughts and decisions. Just because you don't see the worth doesn't make it incorrect.

There are factors leading to the prohibition of loot boxes in several nations. They are indeed quite deceptive.

A candid conversation with a former top Blizz employee, Mike Kerr, who publicly criticized Blizz on Twitter after the D:Immortal incident. TLDListen: Blizz is struggling financially, as World of Warcraft has lost its peak revenue, Overwatch is losing players to Fortnite, Heroes of the Storm didn’t meet expectations financially, and Activision is now aggressively pursuing full corporate takeovers of Blizz. Senior Blizz leaders are completely disconnected from the regular staff—only three out of five key figures (Pardo, Morrhaime, Metzen) remain—and the company is treating fans like employees even more harshly than usual. Activision is pushing a “business over value” approach. Having been a Blizz fan for about 25 years, from WarCraft 1 onward, I hope the original team plus top new fans unite in a smaller company focused on quality games.

I'm discussing the value of cosmetic items in loot boxes. It's about balancing appeal for players with real impact on gameplay. Many people enjoy these items, even though they don't change the core experience, and their spending supports the game development.

The motivation comes from the sound of the opening. They reward you with loot boxes for regular gameplay and promote new skins on the main screen, keeping you engaged in a way similar to gambling. It mirrors how real products are marketed. While I acknowledge that loot boxes exist, I feel they don’t alter the core experience. That said, I don’t believe Blizzard’s approach is effective for their revenue, as loot boxes generate huge profits from minimal effort.
