It's a laptop, I'm plugging it into the only HDMI port it has. One day I boot up the computer and boom, no sound regardless of whether it's the TV speaker or the built-in laptop speaker.

Do you rely on the manufacturer's sound driver instead of a generic version? A laptop comes with unique proprietary drivers that aren't compatible across all systems.

The setup includes three distinct sound devices: Realtek, Intel Audio, and Nvidia Audio. I haven’t encountered any problems with these, even after updating drivers for each. The troubleshooter confirms the issue, and both audio services are active but inactive.

I’ve covered most of what’s mentioned in this guide: fixing "audio services not responding" on Windows 10. Restoring backups isn’t an option since I don’t keep them, and all audio services are active but still missing from the volume mixer. It’s confusing.
