I began assembling a new PC using components I already owned, excluding the motherboard and case. I chose an ASUS Mini-DTX board for overclocking and USB C header. Standard 2x8GB RAM is working fine. Now I’m shifting to a system with 128GB of RAM, aiming to fully utilize the two DIMM slots on the board. Since I’m pushing the limits, I checked the QVL. However, many listed parts don’t fit—most are untested or only compatible with specific boards. When I contacted support, they were hesitant due to visible issues and asked for a detailed error list. I shared the annotated PDF, noting nearly 200 part numbers that wouldn’t work. I also compared with other Mini-ITX boards, finding similar incompatibilities. This raises concerns about testing standards or possible negligence. ROG_CROSSHAIR_VIII_IMPACT_MEMORY_QVL.pdf

The item at the bottom you mentioned as "don't exist" actually has a version available, though it can be hard to locate. Some SKUs may be tough to find, but there are alternatives. You can use two different SKUs for one DIMM and install them in your PC. The information provided is mainly for reference; don’t rely on it strictly. On my X570 Hero VIII, the DRAM wasn’t listed in the QVL at all. Running all four sticks caused my system to crash unexpectedly—just stopped instead of restarting. With just two sticks, everything worked perfectly. I adjusted the maximum DRAM current limit in BIOS from 100% to 120%, which fixed the problem completely. ASUS later added this model to their QVL, but it still showed the same issues if I kept the current limit at 100% even after updating BIOS. I’ve been using this setup since the R9 3900X release and had no problems. I’m confident my DRAM is stable, having overclocked it extensively. This isn’t unique to ASUS—many QVL entries seem copied from similar boards with minor tweaks, so they often skip full testing.

I understand you're okay with doing this normally, but the issue here is on the bottom of the list—it states something conflicting. They can't be consistent. According to ZADAK, the DCRAM wasn't released in any dual stick setup, so those part numbers don't exist. A few Japanese sites list EOL numbers, but ZADAK confirmed they were never produced. Only one timing was available in a 1x32GB version, which predates the X570 impact release. I'm not saying you can't use items outside the QVL, but manufacturers should meet higher expectations if they claim an item is "guaranteed to work." Edited July 26, 2020 by CatHerderCam added info
