Your Ryzen 3 1200 AF at 4GHz will likely perform better in single-threaded tasks compared to the Ryzen 3 3100 at 3.9GHz, since both are quad-core processors.

Performed some tests and looked at the results. 1200 AF is an older design, so speed isn't the only factor to consider.

The core clock isn't the sole component defining a CPU; factors like cache design, FPU capabilities, IPC, and additional threads also play a role. Even after overclocking, the 1200 AF will generally lag behind a 3100.

The upgrade seems worthwhile based on your performance. You're already hitting 4.1 with your current setup, so it's worth considering even before the budget chips arrive.

Yea still, these things will still make the 3100 better. It's up to you really, if you need the extra horse power or not, though the 3100 isn't really that huge of an upgrade so you could wait and upgrade to something better than a 3100.

Because the person asking is likely looking for a replacement motherboard, getting one just to upgrade to a 3100 isn't worthwhile. If you manage to get a 3600, that's the right time to act. Today's CPUs are available, so wait until we clarify what you need.
