Has anyone experience with this? I'm trying to activate a (already installed) copy of Win7 in order to upgrade to Windows 10. Depending on what works I'll buy a 8 or 10 key. I'm pretty sure that a 10 Key won't work to activate 7 Or is there another way to Upgrade to Win10 without having to reinstall Windows?

Only a Windows 7 activation code can start Windows 7, but it will also work for Windows 10.

Based on what I understand, setting up Windows 10 from scratch offers a smoother process compared to upgrading, particularly when using an SSD.

There’s no need to just reinstall. Using the original activation keys won’t work for Windows 7. A fresh installation is the best option.

Yeah, that's what I feared. I won't get a Ultimate Key for cheap, barely found a Home Premium Key. True, but that means more work for tech support (me). Relatives that can barely use computers are the best Thanks guys

Just a note, you don't have to turn on Windows 7 to move up to version 10 in advance.

I understand the frustration, many family members contact me even for basic updates.

I attempted it yesterday. The Update Assistant needs a valid Windows 7 license to proceed. It seems that was the situation during the official Windows 7 to 10 update phase.
