For an outdated CPU, it's smarter to choose a lightweight Linux distribution.

Some users mentioned on other platforms that the program won't work because the CPU lacks PAE/NX support and SSE2 capabilities.

The CPU won't run Windows 10 because it lacks certain instruction sets. Some patches exist that work around this, but most applications fail to function properly, creating serious security concerns. Plus, performance will be so poor it becomes unusable.

Some alternatives from Windows 8 remain functional even with 10. But what makes you consider using them?

You're likely thinking the security threats aren't severe. Just make sure you avoid clicking on anything suspicious.

I found a motherboard in my drawer and I’m thinking about repurposing it.

Run patchers and ensure RAM stays under 4GB. It’s going to be really bad if you say otherwise.

The security threats are just as severe as broken sandboxes, allowing anything on the web—even without clicking—to easily reach your system. Opening the start menu also causes a full system load and briefly freezes it. The Athlon XP isn’t built for Windows 10 and previously had issues with Windows 7. A few ultra-light Linux distributions might function better, but internet browsing will be extremely slow.
