I just set up a new PC for a friend. I installed Windows but he didn’t have his Microsoft account. I signed in with mine. The system isn’t activated yet. If I enter an activation code under my account and then he logs in with his account, will Windows still be active? I’m pretty sure it depends on the hardware.

Set up a local Windows account. The process may vary by version, but it can activate using the account rather than the PC directly.

Yes, it should work. Signing out and then activating without an active account will allow the system to recognize you when he tries to log in.

You might not be able to sign out, so consider creating an offline account instead. If that's the case, you'll likely need to set up a new admin account, log out from your current one, sign in with the new account, and then delete your old account. After that, enable it.

Transfer the local account to a different identity and proceed. Make sure to provide the password or delete it before handing over the device.
