I purchased a laptop today with Windows 8.1 pre-installed. I really dislike it and wanted to know if I can still use the Windows key or disk I bought for my PC during setup. Thanks for the help!

It really depends. Check on the box and see how many license it has. If its a single license then no, if its a multi one then yes,

I’ve relied on Windows 8.1 keys several times, but I opted for a MSDN subscriber account, so maybe it’s best to wait for others to share their experiences. It’s not that terrible, after all.

Not alongside your other devices when you possess, as noted by Firearm212, a solitary license.

Feel free to attempt it or explore the darker path. You may also purchase another version whenever you wish.

I suggest starting with Classic Shell and giving it a try. It would require significantly less effort. I've been using it alongside Windows 8/8.1 for more than ten months and really enjoy it. It brings Windows 7.5 to life.

Remove it from the other PC and it works. I assumed you meant the Windows key on the keyboard next to Ctrl.

This feature allows reuse but restricts operation to a single version at any given moment.

It's not possible technically, though a solution exists. I've applied it to set up Windows 7 across several machines at once. It could be applicable for Windows 8 as well.
