I’m really sure about this now. No matter the connection type, the router isn’t up to the task of managing many devices at once, causing delays for everyone.

Did you check your connection speed using Google's test? The issue might also stem from slower traffic on the network beyond your direct link.

I just got the 5GHz Asus USB-AC680 adapter and it delivers up to 45Mb/s down and 20Mb/s up. It doesn’t seem like a bottleneck when you ignore other devices on the network. I plan to check its in-game speed now to see if it improves my ping when everyone is online.

I decided to consider this a Christmas miracle. I launched Red Orchestra 2 and kept my ping within an acceptable range. Four devices were connected online. Then I checked YouTube on my phone, and the ping improved steadily by 4-8 ms consistently. It didn’t experience that severe slowdown for a few seconds, which used to occur. I’m happy with this stability. On the other hand, most Russians have 200 ping anyway, but at least I won’t be affected by the router lagging. In short, better internet and 5GHz made a big difference. I might still upgrade to a non-default router for a smoother experience. Appreciate all the suggestions!
