New AMD CPUs with socket AM4 will require older systems to get a BIOS upgrade to support the latest processor. Before installing the new CPU, you must update your motherboard's BIOS using the original CPU model.

When performing an update, always review all the instructions carefully. Avoid installing the latest BIOS updates if you're using a Pinnacle, Raven, Summit or Bristol Ridge—those are likely the second-generation Ryzen models. I'm working with an ASRock B450 board, but only updated P1.80 for my Pro4.
