I recently purchased the ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II and a m.2 SSD, with Windows already installed on my SSD. I wanted to transfer it to the new m.2 drive, but that caused issues. During the installation, after selecting the drive, it begins downloading but then restarts back to Windows setup. Neither the m.2 nor the SSD appears in the BIOS boot menu without CMS, and since Windows 11 doesn’t support CMS, we can’t install it. The devices show up in the BIOS but don’t appear during boot, which seems to be the main problem. We’ve tried several solutions: reinstalling Windows Media, flashing the BIOS to an older version, using the latest OS, removing the USB stick, and even contacting Asus. They indicated the motherboard or the drive itself might be faulty. Microsoft didn’t help much, and the technician kept suggesting a new USB stick without understanding our concerns.

Have you ever removed the M.2 SSD? It might be attempting (and failing) to start from the old Windows setup. First, save all important data from that device since you're about to delete it. Ensure your computer is in UEFI mode, then boot using a Windows installation media created with the Media Creation Tool. You can use Diskpart to "clean" the drive (wiping everything) or remove all partitions when prompted (also wiping everything). Install there, allowing the installer to form any partitions it needs.

No, not yet. Both drives are still in use and have not been fully wiped.

Consider only using the m.2 drive, install Windows with just that one, test if it starts, then power off, add the other drive, verify BIOS settings for boot sequence, restart and use Disk Management to clear space on the SSD.

They aren't appearing in the boot sequence, which seems to be the issue.

Did they appear in the boot sequence earlier? I'm curious if the BIOS simply labels the connections without naming the specific drives, just showing ports like SATA 1, SATA 2, NVME 1, etc. It would be odd if it didn't do that, but I just wanted to verify. When I configured my RAID setup before getting the NAS, the BIOS treated all SATA ports equally.

they arrived shortly after but vanished without a trace. If i enable csm, they show up again, though windows 11 doesn’t support it, so we can’t install it.

It seems unusual, you shouldn't require CSM on current systems, right? If you're considering secure boot... Have you explored any options? It might affect how much CSM is necessary.
