Hey there, I see you're trying to get your PC back to Windows 8.1 after upgrading to Windows 10. You've made a bootable USB with Windows 10, but it's not accepting your MS Store key. Your question is clear—do you really need to reinstall Windows 8.1 first? Let's figure it out together.

Nothing. Microsoft states they say Windows will start itself using the key it keeps on the motherboard (this never happens). Your alternatives are: 1) Purchase a Windows 10 key, 2) Install an activator (what I did), 3) Reinstall Windows 8 and upgrade.

You had to jot the Windows 10 activation code after the upgrade from version 8 using the enchanted jelly bean key finder.

Incorrect. Licenses for Windows 7/8 aren't compatible with Windows 10.

Upgrade your Windows version from 7 or 8 to 10 and it will activate automatically. After activation, use the provided tool to retrieve your Windows 10 serial number. Once you have it, you can perform a complete system reset and install Windows 10 using that key.

Interestingly, it appears to have stored the key on the motherboard. I chose "Do this later" in the product key field, and once the installation was complete, the OS activated automatically.
