New Windows 10 setup, full disk consumption, crashes later on
Earlier, with my previous hard drive, the operating system began to lag until the screen turned a dark shade. I assumed the storage device was failing, given its age, but it somehow caused Windows corruption beyond repair. It wouldn’t boot at all, yet I couldn’t fix or restore it. Later, after installing the OS on a different drive, this one was also quite outdated. This time I performed a clean install of Windows because options were limited. After some time and basic setup, the screen turned blue again. Once I got back in, everything resumed normally except for full disk usage and a loss of my installation. It seemed both the drivers were old and unreliable. Eventually, I replaced the hard drive with a new 960GB SSD, hoping it would resolve the problem—but it didn’t. The issue persisted until the machine stopped responding altogether. The motherboard emitted five beeps before shutting down completely. After some investigation, I suspected the CPU was the culprit. It worked on another board too, producing the same beep pattern. If it were the CPU, it would have been a serious problem. So I left the computer as it was and used my girlfriend’s notebook instead. A few weeks later, I received a new i5 7500. As soon as I installed it, the motherboard sounded those five beeps again. I tried disconnecting components, but it still wouldn’t work. I reinstalled Windows 10, Chrome, downloaded Genshin Impact and froze—full disk usage, OS freezing, only a restart could save it. The 100% usage returned, then a blue screen appeared, corrupting the OS permanently. Even with a USB drive, I couldn’t recover anything. I attempted over 23 methods to lower disk usage, but nothing helped. I ran memory and CPU tests, SSD diagnostics, yet no clues emerged. I’m not particularly skilled with tech, but I understand the basics. It might be the motherboard or power supply, but I’m uncertain. I’ve been trying for a long time, and I’m starting to give up. I've experienced RAM instability with comparable problems even though the DIMMs seemed fine. They triggered similar issues in another system and ultimately failed within a short time. It turned out to be not advised according to QVL. I'd consider using these DIMMs in another machine to check the outcome.
The RAM is a bit outdated, though I’ve never faced issues before. After reinstalling Windows 10, it ran smoothly without crashes and reached full disk usage efficiency. Currently, only opera and League of Legends are installed. In a prior attempt, adding Genshin Impact caused frequent crashes, often forcing a system reboot. It seems I might need to wait until I can upgrade my RAM.
