New update – reduced speed at 2.4GHz... Assistance needed
I purchased an Ubiquiti Unifi AP AC LR access point to boost my home Wi-Fi speed. But while the 5GHz band delivers the full ISP speed, the 2.4GHz band is roughly three times slower—about 250Mb/s compared to 80Mb/s or less. This happens even when I’m close by and run a speed test on my OnePlus 7 Pro. I’m not technically familiar with networking and don’t understand why this discrepancy exists. My concern is whether a better AP that’s tuned for the 2.4GHz band would help. I’ve read online that this frequency can offer much more performance than what the AP provides.
Channels are quite active. Use the monitor in the unified software to check. Slow speeds on 2.4GHz are normal; opt for 5GHz when you can.
2.4ghz runs a bit slower than 5ghz, yet it travels farther and penetrates objects more effectively. It seems like what you're talking about is typical.
Your internet speed is 250Mb/s, but it seems inconsistent with being near the AP. This could be due to network congestion, device limitations, or signal interference. The typical max speed for 2.4GHz is around 600Mb/s, so 250Mb/s might be lower than expected. Let me know if you need further clarification!
The reported phy speed is 100 Mbps, and the channel width is 16 MHz.
