Recently, I've been playing Battlefield 1 more often. I'm using an ultra/high setting, adjusting based on how my system handles it. I've been thinking about overclocking (OC) for a while now, especially after upgrading my PC. I've watched around 5 to 6 videos on the topic, so I'm relatively new to OC but have some computer knowledge. I'm not sure where to begin testing OC. My goal is to avoid damaging my hardware while aiming for smooth gameplay without frame drops.

Hardware specs:
i7 7700k, Kaby Lake 4.2 GHz
Zotac 1080 TI Amp Extreme
650 W Corsair PSU
MSI Z270 M7 Motherboard

Feel free to ask if you need more details. Thanks for reading!

Which CPU cooler are you employing?
Have you verified your CPU temperatures within the game?
What is your current frame rate?
What is the lowest acceptable frame rate?
Which resolution are you utilizing?

CPU cooler is Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
I haven't tested in-game, but I have an Intel Extreme app that runs stress tests on the CPU. Frame rates fluctuate a lot. For Ultra mode, it often stays above 60 frames. Sometimes it isn't even graphically demanding, but frame problems can appear. I'm playing at 1920x1080 with 144Hz.

Above 60... aim for over 100fps, ideally surpassing 140fps. Set up MSI Afterburner and utilize the on-screen display to track in-game CPU and GPU usage along with temperatures. Add HWInfo64 to capture maximum CPU temperature in the background so you can review it after finishing the game. It's important to verify your temperatures are within safe limits before attempting an overclock. *How was the Intel stress test? What was the peak temperature?*

I played one session of Battlefield 1 for 30 minutes. The GPU temperature ranged from a minimum of 48 to a maximum of 74. The CPU temperature stayed between a minimum of 31 and a maximum of 69. After running another stress test, here are the details. Thanks in advance! 😊

So then you should be able to reach 4.5-4.6GHz from your 7700K with the Hyper 212 if you're looking for a stable stress test result. I just test it with enhanced turbo on my MSI board and it performs adequately. You might achieve around 4.6GHz, but keep in mind the cooler limits due to your budget model.

I don't need a lot. I just want really smooth games, as I didn't expect much. But Il tries for 4.5 first. Are there any GPU overclock options, or should we focus on the CPU instead?

There's no reason to overclock your GPU if you're gaming at 1080p with a 1080 Ti. If you're not getting consistently over 100fps playing BF1 on Ultra with your setup then something else may be wrong.
What did your CPU and GPU usage look like in-game?

GPU usage was at 98%, CPU at 85%. I'm unsure what might be causing issues with the configuration. Drivers are installed and everything appears functional, but it doesn't seem to reach its full capacity.

It seems you're asking about the specific frame rates, particularly the average and lowest performance. You mentioned a general expectation of over 60 frames per second but are curious about the actual numbers.
