I haven't touched Linux before, and I don’t have any experience with a Steam Deck.

It seems I'm fortunate enough to have played all the games in my Steam collection smoothly with Proton. The only challenge I faced was with the free game I downloaded earlier.

I possess a Steam Deck and I struggle to find any reason Linux is simpler than Windows for gaming. At most, it matches the ease of Windows. Download it, start it up. It often functions well. However, I've faced issues where adjustments are needed. 1) Sleeping Dogs – modify the file manually to fix resolution or display problems. 2) Elite Dangerous – rely on a third-party tool to install a community Proton Build and switch Steam settings accordingly (Proton-GE). 3) Akiba's Trip – cutscenes and audio fail completely. No clear solution. The only outcomes were silent, upside-down, and reversed videos (really). 4) Anything not available through Steam – you'll need to install Lutris, PlayOnLinux, WINE, or manually add the game for Proton, which means choosing how to learn those methods. All of this is just a guess.

If Kisai has concerns, other titles like Valorant, Sniper Elite 2, Civilization V (Native), or multi-disc games generally perform well. No third-party patches are needed from a clean install without prior knowledge of WINE or DXVK/VKD3D. I included most examples from Kisai’s discussions (AntiCheat, DRM, Native). Outside typical single-player titles on Steam, his points seem mostly valid. Unless it impacts you, it’s probably fine, but Linux doesn’t necessarily offer a superior gaming experience overall.

Ah truly muda enjoyer. Respect+ Welcome to linux world where everything is wrong yet right. *Everyone saying you need secondary gpu* Meanwhile I'm running internal gpu as host and external gpu to VM seamless fps. Swithin' between batocera arch and windows. *Shrug* Don't take everyone word, try it out till it breaks just reinstall and continue living. Get rid of those invasive anticheat that wont let you play as linux user. Plenty games with anticheat allows linux users you can find on protonDB I've dropped lots of games that wont let you play as linux user.

Some individuals confidently hold incorrect beliefs. They assert their statements as truth without questioning the facts. What impresses me is how many people, particularly non-experts, accept these claims despite misinterpretations and misuse of internet terminology. Linux games often face significant issues, even native ones. I own several Linux titles from feral that no longer function properly. A few from Paradox Interactive also stopped working (Victoria 3). Many problems stem from outdated NVIDIA drivers or missing shared libraries. These issues could be resolved with better testing and updates, but developers rarely prioritize this on Linux. Windows remains the primary platform for testing, while open-source games pose a different challenge—if maintained well, they should work across systems.

Connect ProtonGE, but placing FSR in every game on the Deck is straightforward. Try it in Windows. That’s just one case. Lutris serves as a launcher for multiple launchers, another illustration. It seems you haven’t explored all your choices in Linux.

I appreciate the examples you shared about games that struggle on Linux. There are many classic titles that perform exceptionally well on the platform from the start. Some notable ones include Final Fantasy 13, Assassin's Creed 1, and older Tomb Raider releases. It’s clear that Linux generally offers better compatibility overall compared to Windows. Civ 5 runs smoothly with Proton, making it a solid choice. I know you’re feeling a preference for Linux, but it’s true that gaming experiences tend to be more seamless there.

This statement is completely accurate. Native titles perform poorly on Linux, which is why many players rely on Proton. However, Proton offers a solid alternative for Linux gamers. In fact, certain games run even smoother without Proton’s anti-cheat features, such as VAC. Overall, Linux gaming can be quite impressive when using Proton.
